Excercise: Analysing social documentary

For this exercise I am to select an image by two photographers in this section and analyse in more depth:

• what is the subject?
• what is the context?
• was the photographer working for pay?
• was the taking of the photograph consensual or non-consensual?
• does the photograph reveal any particular 'trademark' or style?
• is the photograph successful?
• is the photograph an example of social documentary or is it photojournalism?
